How much do classes cost?

Class price varies depending on the studio & how many classes you want to pay for at a time. For all classes at American BellyDance Studio in Lutz, single classes cost $20.00 per class, or if you pre-pay for a month of classes you only pay $55.00. This studio also offers a discount for students taking multiple classes a week, as well as a discountfor signing up with auto-pay. For all classes at Dancebox Studio, single classes cost $20.00 per class, or $60.00 for a month of classes. Cash, check, & major credit card payments are accepted at both studios. Private lessons or private group lessons can be scheduled at either studio for separate price, please inquire about private lesson availability & pricing details.

Do I need to be a specific weight/size/age/gender to bellydance?

Absolutely not! Bellydance is for all ages & sizes. There is no weight or age limit on who can bellydance, a bellydance class is a great place to see a wide variety of people all coming together to celebrate dance. Men & non-binary individuals are always welcome in my bellydance classes too!

Do I need to have any prior dance experience to come to class?

No, no experience is required. While some dance experience is certainly a plus many of my classes are open to everyone, even if you have never set foot in a dance class before. If you do have dance experience please let me know, this will help me tailor the class to your specific needs.

Do I need to register for classes in advance?

For the classes above marked with an asterisk (*), yes you do need to pre-register for those classes online at www.AmericanBellyDance.com. For all of the other classes you don't have to pre-register, but you can. You can pay for classes in person when you arrive for class. For classes at American BellyDance Studio you are welcome to register for class ahead of time by visiting the studio website. The studio website also has the ability to accept payment & get you all set up to shimmy.

What do I wear for class?

Anything comfortable that you can move & dance in! Most people prefer to wear yoga pants & a tank top. For ATS classes you can wear your full 25 yard skirt. You are not required to show your belly, but remember these are exercise classes & you will work up a sweat. If you have one,  you can wear a scarf or belt around to help accent the moves you are learning.

What do I wear on my feet?

Bellydance is usually done with bare feet but a soft soled ballet show or 1/2 sole dance shoe, like Leo Toes, can be worn to protect the feet. Dance sneakers are also allowed for those who need more support or cushioning. For burlesque you may wear character shoes, jazz shoes or dance barefoot. Please note that most studios prohibit street shoes from being worn on the dance surface.

Do I need to brig anything with me?

I always recommend bringing a water bottle to help students stay hydrated as well as a small hand towel, this is Florida after all. A notebook & pen/pencil can also be useful for taking notes on steps & choreography or writing down the occasional homework assignment. If anything else is needed for class (i.e. finger cymbals/zills, yoga mat, veil, etc.) you will be notified either in the class description or by Amani.

Do I have to perform if I take class?

Performing is completely optional. Students will have opportunities to perform if they would like but are in no way required to do so. Performing is simply an extra perk of class & students who wish to take class solely for fitness, exercise, or for the cultural experience are free to do so without pressure.
